All parents care about the academic progress of our children. As you know, we have a no MEANINGLESS homework policy at IA. Our policy is designed to help families in several ways:
- It helps you have time to work on academics in a personalized way for your family and your children.
- It also helps families to have more control over how and when to study.
But our policy is not intended to enable parents to never support academic learning at home. It is not intended to create family dynamics in which students never study or practice academic skills outside of school.
With that in mind, we are here to help you find ways that your students can be supported to study and practice academic skills when not at school. One support we have added over the past two years is the use of quality online programs that can be accessed both in and out of school. The following are several that we are currently using.
- STMATH: www.stmath.com for our 1st thru 8th graders
- ZINGY SCIENCE www.zingylearning.com for our 4th thru 8th graders
There are two more programs that we will be implementing this month:
- Touch, Type, Read and Spell: www.ttrsonline.com for 2nd thru 8th grade TTRS is a multi-sensory course that teaches touch-typing skills to help children and adults improve their reading and spelling
- Reflex Math: www.reflexmath.com for 2nd thru 8th grades Reflex Math is a game based math fluency program
Please ask your child to sign in to one of the programs and show you what skills they are developing. Together we are a powerful team.
As you know, we sometimes share the multipurpose room with the district. Please be prepared for a full parking lot on Wednesday, Thursday (10-22 and 10-23) of this coming week and next Thursday 10/30
Thank you for listening and have a great week!
