Full time and Independent Study Options
Full Time:
80% of our student population participates in our traditional-schedule full time program. Full time students attend Monday through Friday. We have a minimum day on Monday. The curriculum is mastered using Project Based Service Learning, engaging hands-on activities, enrichment classes, multi-age mentoring, and a strong social emotional/character education program based on learning conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
3 Day Option:
We also offer a 3 day program for K – 2 students on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for families who wish to participate in their child’s education as the primary educator 2 extra days per week but would also like to have their child(ren) participate in a typical school classroom. Students integrate into a regular 5-day classroom three days a week and are responsible for their own learning off-site the other two days. Many 3 day students find this to be a nice blend of school with homeschooling.
2 Day Homeschooling Option (Home Learning Community – HLC):
The HLC is a community of families who are committed to homeschooling and our program reflects that.
The HLC meets twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30-3:30) for cooperative, student-directed learning opportunities which are chosen and designed by the children themselves based on areas of intense interest and curiosity. Class are led by California credentialed teachers with many years of both classroom and homeschool teaching experience. Learning takes many forms and, while there is a great deal of joyful learning in many arenas of academics and life, there is little to no direct instruction at school.
State Common Core Standards are addressed by the parents at home using whichever home learning approach the family is most comfortable with. Our teachers will gladly help families discover their personal home learning “style” if requested.
Because parents are the primary educators of their children in the HLC program, parents and students have the following requirements:
- Attend the 2-day program regularly,
- Turn in paperwork every four weeks to their child’s teacher,
- Participate in Adult Education Workshops four times per year,
- Attend Family Visioning Night and three Family Meetings per year, and
- Complete Autumn and Spring check-ins with their child’s teacher.
Prospective families will attend an informational session and schedule a visit day in our classrooms. Information Sessions are done via Zoom. Send an email to hlc@innovationsacademy.org and we’ll send you the Zoom link! You can schedule your visit day after you have attended an informational session.
