You’re Always Welcome Here
Walk through our doors any school day and you’ll find parents and caregivers reading with a class, assisting in so many different kinds of art, cheering at Exhibition Night, monitoring in a science lab, or involved in our Nature Studies program in our fantastic “backyard”. We don’t have a “parents wait outside” policy, because you are not on the outside of your child’s education here. You’re in it with us.
How We Keep You Connected
We know that staying in the loop matters. At IA, communication is built into how we operate. Teachers are reachable and responsive, because open communication between home and school isn’t optional for us, it’s essential.
Every Sunday, families receive our weekly Sunday Blast through ParentSquare — packed with what’s happening in classrooms, what to expect in the week ahead, camps coming up (summer camps here!), and food for thought on learning and parenting. Recently our math classrooms have sent home a game to play together to boost math skills learned this year. Don’t worry if you don’t remember math the way your children do, have them teach you!
Events That Bring Us Together
Some of our most meaningful community moments happen when families show up together. Our twice-yearly Exhibition Nights are among the most important events on our calendar — students present their work, their growth, and their thinking to peers, parents, and community members. We consider these as significant as any report card.
We have plenty of events throughout the year that we encourage families to attend. Right now we’re getting ready for our Innovations Family Community Theatre production of “Breaking Legs”, our annual talent show, Beach Day, and our Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast. We love having families celebrate what we’ve built together!
A Shared Philosophy
Our school runs on a progressive model that looks different from traditional public schools: no homework, no standardized tests as the measure of success, and a relationship-based discipline approach where students learn to resolve conflict, not just receive consequences.
