Hi! My name is Alexa, and I’m so excited to begin my sixth year at IA! For the past few years, I’ve taught fourth grade, and this year I’m thrilled to make the move to middle school as the 6th grade humanities teacher.
I graduated from San Diego State University and grew up in the Imperial Valley. My family moved to the United States from Mexico when I was four years old, and I’ve called San Diego home since 2018. I’m proud to be bilingual in English and Spanish, and I love incorporating my language and culture into the classroom to create an inclusive environment and support all learners.
Outside of school, I enjoy hiking, listening to audiobooks while walking my dog, Zuko, going to the movie theater, playing board games with friends, and going on spontaneous adventures or outings around San Diego. I’m passionate about building meaningful relationships with my students and helping them grow as curious, thoughtful learners. I can’t wait to explore the fascinating stories of ancient civilizations and other humanities topics together this year!
