In Art Class our HLC students created three panels for their Spring Shakespeare play last year. The set portrays a magical forest. This collaborative artwork was inspired by Gustav Klimt’s powerful Tree of Life painting, which the artist painted during his “Golden Years”. We took a close look at Klimt’s processes and the common themes and elements inherent in his artwork. We also read The Magical Tree, a children’s book written about the Tree of Life, which was a great way to teach students about the meaning behind this famous and timeless work of Art.After we completed the set, students each created their own personal Trees of Life, drawing from all of the concepts, ideas, skills, and techniques learned during the first, collaborative phase of the project.
