My name is Nathan and I am thrilled to be joining the IA community. Originally, I am from the suburbs of Chicago and I studied geography and sustainability at Southern Illinois University- Carbondale. After graduating, I had no intentions of teaching and was ready to be done with school. However, my love for education blossomed when I took a short internship at the Monteverde Butterfly Gardens in Costa Rica. That short internship turned into a longer job that made me fall in love with education and reaffirmed my passion for the natural world.
After spending two years as an elementary Outdoor Science Educator in San Francisco, I spent three years teaching 5th grade at that same school and three years teaching 4th here in San Diego. I am so excited to get back to my roots: teaching about nature, gardening, and everything in between.
When my wife and I are not teaching (she too is an elementary teacher), we are chasing around our toddler, Lennox, or our two dogs. When they all go to bed, we spend much of our time reading, writing, playing board games, and playing soccer. I look forward to meeting this community and learning with all of the students!
