    Mara Cox

    Teacher assistant, Apprentice Teacher, Kindergarten
A warm hello! My name is Mara and this will be my first year at Innovations Academy. I grew up in Arizona and when I left for college I traded the heat and the 365 days of sunshine for the pine trees and rain, I was happy to call the University of Oregon my new home. When I attended U of O, I studied Mandarin Chinese and Early Childhood Education. I then later received my multiple subject teaching credential at the University of California Santa Barbara. My teaching experience is rich and varied as I have taught in Mexico, Canada, and China. I have also worked at summer camps, and have been a private Mandarin tutor for three years. This past year while attending UCSB, I was a full time teaching assistant in both kindergarten and fourth grade. My time that is not devoted to teaching you can find me reading at the beach, snorkeling, painting, hiking, cycling, or enjoying a cup of tea or coffee. I would describe myself as a someone who never stops learning. I enjoy teaching because it is a process of discovery as each day holds new information and new realizations. My vision for this year is to help create an environment of open collaboration among students’ that not only allows each child to be heard but also feel valued.

    Teacher assistant, 1st grade
My name is Carolina. I was born in LA and raised in San Diego where I have spent most of my life. I have a daughter that is two years old and I also have three stepsons. In my spare time I like to hang out at the beach, hike, and relax at home with my daughter.
I currently have a BA in Liberal Studies in hopes of becoming a teacher in the near future. I have been working at IA since December 2015, and it is a place I love to call home. IA has taught me many different ways a child learns and the importance of social and emotional skills. It is inspiring to be able to work with so many passionate people that love what they do. It has been a wonderful learning experience working here and I am excited for the years to come.

    Teacher assistant, 1st grade

My name is Rob and I am excited to have this experience at I.A. I have received a BFA in stop motion animation from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. I volunteer in my community by visiting elementary schools and sharing my love of reading. I also tutor students with extreme learning disabilities who don’t have the financial resources to get extra help. I am dedicated to the intellectual and emotional development of all the students I work with and find that they are all a constant source of joy and inspiration.

    Teacher assistant, 3rd grade

I was born and raised in beautiful San Diego. I moved away to go to school but decided I did not want to be anywhere else! My mom is one of the founding teachers at Innovations so I have been around since the beginning. I started working in the classrooms/after school care about 6 years ago and quickly realized that teaching is what I want to do.

When I am not at school you can find me on road trips, going to the beach, hiking, listening to music, and spending time with my family. I love Innovations Academy and all the wonderful people I have been able to meet and learn from. I am excited to have another great year with great people!

    Teacher assistant, 6th grade

Hi everyone! My name is Allison and I am thrilled to spend another
year with 6th grade here at Innovations Academy.

I am a Southern California native, spending 19 years in Orange County.
In high school I was a swimmer and water polo player. Once I started
college, I switched over to rowing. After two years rowing in
community college in Orange County, I transferred over to San Diego
State. During my last semester, as I was finishing my Bachelor’s
degree in Child and Family Development, I had the wonderful
opportunity to intern with our lovely Jennifer Kuebler over in the
Solutions Center. During that time I fell in love with the school, the
staff, and the students. Once my internship was over I was fortunate
enough to get hired on as Beth’s assistant teacher and she’s been
    stuck with me ever since!

I have been working with middle school students, building
relationships and mentoring them since I was a senior in high school.
I am passionate about helping preteens develop into successful and
    happy learners.

I was born and raised here in San Diego and am the 4th of 6 kids. If it were possible I would be at the beach every day of the year. This is my second year here at Innovations and I’ll be with the 8th grade class. I’m excited to continue building our school community and be a part of our students’15 final year with us. I can’t wait for the school year to begin and help inspire a love of learning in the minds our our students
