Teacher, 7th grade
I am so happy to be teaching here at IA! I love that our environment is one where students are empowered to drive their own learning and where a safe and strong community is highly valued. I love meeting people and genuinely care about the connections I build with those around me. This is something I practice in both my professional and personal lives. I currently live with two of my closest friends in Downtown and we love exploring the area! I graduated from San Diego State University with a bachelors degree in Elementary Teaching and fell in love with this city. Although I always knew I wanted to be a teacher; after I graduated, I felt I wanted more real life experience before I jumped back into school to earn a credential. I found an advertisement for a teaching assistant position at a small school I had never heard of (IA) and applied on a whim. Little did I know the job that followed and the experiences it brought would shape me to be the person I am today. I spent two years post graduation here at Innovations Academy where I was lucky enough to work alongside Tony and a group of outstanding students during their 7th and 8th grade years. It was my time in that class where I saw first hand the immensely positive impact student-centered and meaningful learning can have on young adults. That experience drove me to earn my teaching credential at Cal State University Fullerton this past year in order to come back and rejoin the IA team as a full time teacher. I am overwhelmed with joy to be teaching 7th grade and I cannot wait to get this year started!
