Innovative and Progressive Curriculum

The Best in San Diego Education

Constructivist Methodology

Fun, excitement, curiosity, and engagement. These things make joyful learners. At Innovations Academy students experience this joy from making a difference in their community. Kindergartners learned about our neighbors in Tijuana while painting stools for the Tijuana Children’s Village. Upper graders discovered the roots of our monetary system while creating a student run school store.

Students experience feelings of success and mastery while working on standards based as well as interest based projects. Our project based learning emphasis integrates the study of Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies bringing a real world structure to subject areas that are often taught as unrelated. Project based learning is a dynamic approach in which students explore real-world problems and challenges. With this type of active and engaged learning, students are inspired to obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects they're studying.

Eager engagement is seen in our Explorations Program where students get the chance to participate in activities that are often left for outside the classroom.  Puppetry, Fine Art, Wacky Science, and Photography are just a few of the areas our students have exploed.  Students will also create and help to run clubs like Student Government, Environmental Club, and Yearbook.

And, in keeping with being innovative, it's not just about what curriculum we use, it’s about how we relate to students and how they relate in our world. At IA students are interacted with as capable participants in their own education. Students are given choice and expected to learn the communication skills and tools to have a say in their learning. They rise to the challenges and responsibilities that come with freedom. Students learn to speak about what they are learning, set goals, evaluate progress and be fully engaged in their own learning.

Individual needs are important to us at IA. Families can choose from a five, three, or two day per week on-site program.
